By now I’m assuming most of us have heard the story about the LHC: the Large Hadron Collider, which may or may cause the instantaneous cessation of all life in our world as we are sucked into a gradually growing black hole or life is transformed into strange matter. Or not.
But there’s a lighter side to everything, even the nigh apocalypse, and that is this! The New York Times made quite a serious malapropism / Freudian slip while writing about the good old LHC: to them, it’s nothing but a big ol’ Large Hardon Collider, which frankly sounds kind of painful.
And maybe that’s the point, in the end: like Bender from Futurama says, perhaps it’d be appropriate for us to realize that, if this does destroy the world, “well, we’re boned!”
