Dr. Who?

30 01 2008

So I just started watching one of the more recent incarnations of Dr. Who, with Christopher Eccleston as the good Doctor, and I have to say, it’s sheer joy to watch. Eccleston is superbly hyper-kinetic; he radiates good humor and enthusiasm. It’s hard not to grin while watching.

It’s the kind of thing that you want to share with your friends, dedicated, real friends who don’t mind hunkering down with a six-pack, a pizza, and several hours of television. Sure, the special effects are corny, but I find they fall under to my willing suspension of disbelief; in some cases, they even make you want to cheer for how spectacularly over-the-top they are. In my mind, this is what the Dresden Files show should have been; the writing and acting are supremely tight and fun, the plotting is imaginative, it feels like classic English fantasy / sci-fi (Michael Moorcock, I’m looking at you). What more could one want?

An Old Post: The Jade Pillars of So-So, Pt. 1

For your edification, an old excerpt from my old blog, which came to me straight from the Guild of Dashing Men’s guild library. I never did hear more about poor Thurston. Perhaps someday soon we’ll hear more from him?

Apologies for the odd font. Still working out how to do this thing.

Welcome to the Polygon Castle

A place for me to yell about whatever may be on my mind at the moment, which includes, but is not limited to, video games, poetry, short fiction, music, movies, TV: in short, the greater ethereal realm of pop culture, from kitsch to classy.

Come on in. Don’t mind the clutter.
